After many years of working for several different ranches, the Cox family finally has a place of their own. Grey Thunder Ranch is located on 270 acres in the lower Wallowa Valley. This is the gateway to the beautiful Wallowa Valley, Eagle Cap Wilderness, Hells Canyon, and Wallowa Lake.
The ranch borders the Wallowa River on the south and Whiskey Creek runs through much of the property. It also has an acre pond with 12" trout which sometimes distracts the Cox family from their chores when the kids get the urge to go fishing.
About 100 pair of cattle are run in the breaks of the Imnaha Canyon country. This is a 3,500 acre ranch leased for summer pasture.
There are many beautiful views from the ranch of the Wallowa mountains and the steep, rugged canyons. This is defiantly a taste of heaven. Wildlife abounds in this remote area. One can always find something new and exciting to see and do out on the ranch. Along with the help of their 2 boys, Marshal (11 yrs.) and Forrest (8 yrs.), Barry and Cheryl run this ranch by themselves. Although they do have several apprentices in and out working horses, helping build corrals, and pitching hay from time to time.
Most Importantly, about 50 head of horses are run on the Grey Thunder Ranch. Usually they have about 8 colts a year. There is always a lot of horsing around on this outfit.
