Barry
Cox offers HORSE TRAINING WORK SHOPS geared towards teaching the rider
to work more efficiently with their horse. One of the main goals in
these clinics is to get the students to see through their horses'
eyes so that they can better communicate with their horses.
"You're not going home
after one clinic with all the knowledge. You have to live and experience
it."
Barry also develops the rider's
sense of timing and feel so the horse can find his way to the correct
response easier. He begins by setting up a situation for his students
wherein the horses are allowed to THINK their way through a problem.
|
"One of the major problems
that most horse owners have with their horses is that they haven't
covered the basics." GROUND
WORK. The basics begin on the ground where the horses are drilled
to stay focused on their riders. The horses are taught to "hook
on" to the students from both directions, following the students
around without a lead rope simulating situations that might occur
in the saddle while remaining safe.
YIELDING is an essential
ingredient to control and safety. There are six different yields
and until they have control of these yields and the basic groundwork,
the students won't have control of the horses they're riding. The
students need to be able to stop, turn, and control the horses on
the ground before mounting or there will be NO control when riding. |
| The
horses need to be in a GOOD FRAME OF MIND when working with
them so they are willing to learn. RESPECT.
The students learn to respect their horses and their horses
learn to respect them. This increases the horses focus when
working with them.
REWARDS are also a
big part of the lesson. Being aware of when the horses give
in to the pressure and then instantly reward them by letting
off the pressure.
Students are taught
to PROMOTE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR. Horses enjoy being with people
in a friendly and safe environment and this encourages learning.
